Life with a 1 year old

Lately, I have been reading some photography books that I went and checked out at the good old library (one of the few things in life that is still free, and I love it). If you haven't noticed from looking at this blog, I've recently adopted a new hobby, well more like obsession. Picture taking. Since I spend really too much time doing it, I decided maybe I should learn a thing or two about it. One of the books I checked out was "Photographing babies and children". That's by far my favorite subject to photograph, and hey, I even have one of those at my house! A pretty darn cute one too! I read about photographing EVERYTHING, even the things that you don't think to photograph, trying to capture every mood and emotion, not just the usual smile pictures. Jaxon was an easy example, he has so many emotions. I read about close-ups and how effective they are with babies and kids. I read how you can never really get too close when it comes to babies and kids because they are so pure and innocent. And it's true! And then, my favorite, I edited them! I did this thing called "vignetting", I think it's called. What it does is put kind of a blurry frame thing around the edges of the picture, making you focus more on the subject. I really like it. So, using Jaxon as my little model (as always), I snapped a few (well, more than a few) pictures trying to illustrate the story of Jaxon's life, the story of a typical day at our house.

ya gotta love this toothy grin.

this is my favorite. FYI all of these poses he did himself!

I love Jaxon's eyes.

this is the "I'm sick of pictures" face. Poor kid.

!

I love when a baby's face is so full of curiosity and wonder...

Jaxon can go from this....

to this in less than a second. He cries over little silly things, like his basketball hoop tipping over. Don't worry, I didn't get this face intentionally, it was inevitable really, I just had to wait for it.

I love those pictures! I really like the crying one--and not because he is crying that would be mean. It is just a really good shot, and it is awesome that you could get the tears so well, too. Almost like you made it happen that way. You are really good at taking pictures :)

also...how do you do your editing? I liked the ones where you made them look really old a few posts ago. Those were awesome, too. Like I said, you're really good.
