Feeding the Ducks.

yesterday we took jax to feed the ducks, since its been over a YEAR since we've done it with him! poor deprived kid! I also got to play with my new lover (canon 7d). We haven't been able to spend much time together having fun, you know. Its all been business lately. So, we got to know eachother, and let me say, me and Canon are hitting it off pretty dang well. Wow, I love that thing. Love.

I also love ducks. And my family. And being outside. And friday nights. and chocolate. except I didn't have any chocolate, because I'm on a diet. boo.

Here are some photos of the night. Lots of em. because you know what? this is my blog & i get to post lots of whatever pictures i want! i'm thinking of cropping these into 5x5s and making some type of wall art thing in my hallway. you know, just a day being together & being happy. No posed pictures. Just real life. No extraordinary event. Just real life. because it's times like these i wanna remember. i like it.

me, the blog stalker.

Since I spend about 3/4's of my life on the computer & since I get distracted and bored VERY easy,

I tend to BLOG STALK.

Hey, it happens ok?

I'll be sitting here editing my photos...then I'll open up facebook to see how my virtual world is doing. I am an addict (so pathetic, but so true)

Then I'll open up my blog (s) , & check who's been bloggin', read their blogs, the get distracted sometimes with blogs they have on their blogs, and so on. Its a vicious, neverending, timewasting circle! But, I do love it. It helps me stay connected to the world & other moms around me.

What did we ever do before the internet?

So...
whilst blogstalking, I came across some blogs I love.
I know there are many more I love, & I need to be better about remembering them.

Here they are:

The happenings of a not so cookie cutter mom

&

A day in the life of the Italian Hippie

I find both blogs very amusing, funny & entertaining. and you might too!

you should check them out!

Woohoo, that's me!

I was asked to be a part of this awesome boutique in Richfield! Yeah! I've never done anything like it...I'm excited!

I will be setting up a booth...any ideas what I should do?? I could sell prints, do a drawing, maybe set up a mini studio type thing to do a quick photo of children? what do you think??

If you are in Richfield May 1st, you better be there! It will be tons of fun!

Trying to run a business.

I never really talk about this stuff on this blog. Or any blog, really.

Truth is, running a business is so dang hard. I knew it would be. But I wasn't totally prepared. I've had absolutely no photography or business school . I just recently learned what an "invoice" is. I've discovered the fun that comes with deadlines. I've had to learn about investing, saving money, answering e-mails, phonecalls. I've had a lesson in dealing with people socially, all types of them. The paperwork, oh the paperwork. I've learned to get serious about pricing, and hold my ground. I have business cards! I spend hours and hours on the computer editing. I've been so dang discouraged with photoshop at times, that I've cried. And now, I am just hearing about taxes, business insurance, and getting licensed. gee whiz!

I graduated High School, went to a few semesters in college, got married, had a baby, picked up a camera, started getting praise, then started a business. Maybe I jumped into it too fast. Well, I am sure I did. The funny thing is, is that I wasn't "starting a business" because everyone else was. I hate fads like that. I started it because I've always been a lover of art & expressing myself, and I felt like this was one of my true passions. It is so fun to capture personalities & beauty , then turn them into art. And it's really fun to hear that people like me. Who doesn't like that?

Well , today I heard quite the opposite. This is my second run-in with a client. They've both been about weddings & they've both been from the mothers (imagine that!). I was told the photos don't look "professional" & that I'm lacking in confidence. And that she is worried & wants to go with someone else. Ouch! I knew this would happen eventually, and I guess I'm lucky it has taken this long to happen.  No, I am not professional. What does that mean? What qualifies you as a professional? Whatever it is, I don't feel like I am. I take photos I've been told are great, but I've never really felt "professional". Maybe that has to do with confidence, or a lack of education? Because I've always, always struggled with confidence. I don't know why, it's just been my nature. I am never completely sure of myself & I don't really know if I ever will be.

Am I faking to be something I'm not? I label myself a "photographer" , but almost always feel guilty after doing so. I like to say "I do photography". I do not have a background, schooling, credentials, a license. Am I just a girl with a camera? Just like every other stay at home mom in Utah? "Photography" is an evergrowing field, but I feel like its losing it's meaning. I feel like I am drowning in it. It's all around me & its all a big competition. It's just a fad. Am I a fad?

I know I am sensitive & take things way harder than I should . Most will say to brush this off & move on.  Of course I can't make every client happy, even though that is my goal. I put everything into this so it's hard to get negative feedback.  Everyone has to go through things like this. But can I do this? I am not a natural "business" woman. I am not bossy. This is a tough job for me to try and act like someone I'm not.

I do know that I will probably not be doing weddings any longer. I never have liked weddings because they're crazy. And the mothers are crazier. Which I get it, weddings are stressful. But I already had my stressful day, & I'm not sure I want to be part of someone elses. I don't like everything to be in my hands like that. I know what makes me most happy are photographing people, not events. I like photographing, knowing that if I do mess up, we can reschedule. You can't reschedule a wedding. After doing my very first wedding, I remember thinking to myself, I am not a wedding photographer. Maybe with schooling, I could be. But its not my cup of tea. All the people and the pressure. Me having to be bossy and in charge. Me being held accountable for your "once in a lifetime" pictures. Yeah, I don't want that job! It scares the crap out of me!

anyway. I just had to vent. Everything will be okay. I know I will not change my style for anyone. If people don't like me & want something extremely traditional, then by all means, find someone else. Cause it sure won't be hard. EVERYONE does photography now, or thinks they do. I just don't want my passion to become a chore. I don't want what I love to turn into a job I hate. If I want a job I hate, I'll go back to being a CNA or something. Photography is too special to me to have turn into a negative experience.

the end.

Cutest boysies

Friday, I had the privilege of watching one of the cutest babies on Earth! EEEEE! This is Baby Beckham, my friend Kate's baby. He's chubby and happy and CUUUUTE! But between taking care of my stinky butt 2 year old AND Beckham, I finally realized why I do not have two kids. I just COULD NOT handle it. Jaxon was extra, extra stinky and demanding whenever he saw me taking care of Beckham. And poor baby Beckham was sad cause he was teething. So, although I do LOVE watching mr. Beckham, it helped me realize that I don't NEED another baby right this instant. I can get my fix whenever I want through Kate's! haha!

Jax loved Beckham quite a bit, though. And they were so dang cute together. So, seeing that made me want to get a little bro for Jax man. Ahh, I'm torn.

I took lotsa pics of this cute man! Here are some of him  & some of the cute men together!
They are both at pretty fun ages when it comes to pics. Beckham loves smiling and being on his tummy, and jax will actually pose for the camera when I ask. Nice combo. It worked out well..

Check out these cute stinkies I spent Friday afternoon with.

i don't really know what's going on here, but i'm pretty sure beckham's not crazy about it.
i love jax's pb and honey face. what a stinky man!

thankful.

There's been a lot of negativity in my life lately. Andrew & I have a major "coveting" problem . There's been a lot of bitterness going on when we see other people who have more than us (which , in St. George ,there's A LOT!) We alwaaaaays see what other people have, and think- hey that's not fair! we want and deserve that too! But God knows what we need , and apparently it's a lesson in being less covetous and more thankful.

We want:
-another baby
-a 2nd car
-a working dishwasher
-a plasma (? i don't know, andrew wants this) flat screen TV
-a fourwheeler
-to own a home
-to be able to not worry about paying bills every month
-endless money for groceries
-a gym membership
-rich relatives
-lots of toys and lots of cash

the list goes on & on.
BUT
Here's what we do have:

-health
-a cute 2 year old son
-a car that runs
-a townhome with a garage AND cheap rent
-enough money to eat & live
-we live in ST. GEORGE! (that in itself is a blessing)
-family that cares

that list can go on & on too, we just need to recognize that.

I know that if we keep working hard, & be honest and postive, life will work out. I don't think we need THINGS to make us happy, I think we need an attitude adjustment. So, here's to me being more positive and thankful. cause  dangit , I'm gonna try! & I'm gonna try my darnedest to quit comparing myself to others, because I'm sure they have other crap they have to deal with too. Its just something different than us. Money just happens to be our struggle, and maybe we have a valuable lesson to learn.

I am SOOO thankful right now because I've worked my buns off & I finally get a NEW CAMERA! I am so thankful to my uncle kevin for lending me half the money & walmart credit card for lending me the other half. I'm scared to death because it's gonna be hard to get used to it but I'm so excited!! I've needed it so bad! yay!

Here it is: the new love of my life

minus that lens, because that lens is dumb & mine are better I'm pretty sure.

But isn't she beautiful?!

EASTER [day]

Wow, I'm on a blogging spree!
Most of you probably think I am a blogging freak. And, I am.
But the reason I blog so much is not because I take way too many pics that I don't know what else to do with.  Or not because I don't have anything else going on than to sit on my computer all day and post them (well, actually maybe these things may be partly true)
NO, it's because It totally pays off for me. I love looking back to the past and seeing our memories. It's like reliving them. Jax grows up so dang fast, if i don't document everything, I'm gonna have regrets. (I already do)
This easter, I enjoyed looking back at  last easter.
  Jax loves to, too.

Here are our easter baskets after the easter bunny came...
i got my fave perfume (it's just hiding)

jax LOVED going around the room and finding the eggs that the easter bunny hid!

then we watched conference! yay, i love conference! but what i love more, is coloring pictures while watching conference. I can get more out of it that way! Jax was sleeping...

and so was andy...

so it was pretty peaceful for me to sit and color and listen. I am thankful for that! the talks were great this year! I couldn't believe how much of it applied to my life and the sort of things I've been going through lately! I hope EVERYONE listened to it. There were some AWESOME messages. (we missed saturday's conference , and it makes me a little sad.)

after this, we went and rolled our easter eggs down a hill. ( my tradition)
jax loved it. and that's what mattered.
but there are no pictures of that because andy and I were having our annual easter fight.
I am not even kidding, for some bizarre reason, we fight like crazy every easter. like big fights.
i was hoping we'd break the tradition this year, but nope! maybe next year!

hope you all had an awesome easter!!

EASTER ["eastering"]

"Eastering" is a Talbot term. From what I've gathered , it means going in the hills, having a picnic & an easter egg hunt.

Saturday is the official "Eastering" day. And don't you even dare try to change it!

This year, since everyone is either having babies or dealing with some other issues, we decided to do the easter egg hunt! Thing didn't get communicated very well, so everyone ended up bringing eggs! So, there were like 200 eggs! You'd think that would make for a long easter egg hunt.. nope. it wasn't. the kids are too quick!

Jax had an absolute blast. Even if he was the slowest in the bunch and only got like 4 eggs! He really did not care. What he cared about most were these two things:  the other kids  & of course the "cascus" which surrounded us.

carson and jaxon are like best cousins. carson is SO GOOD to him. we forgot to bring a basket for jax, so carson let him borrow his. what a sweet kid!

Jax & Lizzie

almost all the cousins.
well, minus:  maddie, arrek, julia, hailey (new baby), bryce, daniella (new baby), & mckenna (new baby)

I'm really awful at getting pics of the adults!!
ugh! dang...next year!

THEN......
we were able to swing by Dax's (jax's bff) B-day party!
they rented a slide & the kids loved it!
Happy Birthday Dax!

Relax. Be nice. Whatever.
