Tell me

Since I've quit my CNA job, and usually stay at home all day, I have reluctantly taken on the role of a "house-wife". Cooking, cleaning and being a homemaker does NOT come natural to me. At all. I know it's what I should be doing, but that whole mind-set that the womans whole purpose in life is to stay home and serve her family all day, doesn't sit well with me.
Maybe that 's why I've never had the interest to learn how to be domesticated. I've been trying to avoid it, but I can no longer.
I. AM. A . STAY. AT. HOME. MOM.
There I said it. It's like admitting I'm an alcoholic.
Well, I admitted it, NOW how the HECK do I do this???
How do all your wonderful stay at home moms stay sane? How do you have motivation? How do you enjoy life when it gets monotonous??
AND last but not least, WHAT ON EARTH do you cook for dinner EVERY SINGLE night?? I've made dinner 3 nights in a row now, and I feel like I'm totally out of ideas & have lost interest and motivation.
Please, give me some SIMPLE dinner ideas. What do you make? Remember : EASY & CHEAP. But most of all Easy. I have the mentality of a 7 year old in the kitchen.
Thanks!!! I appreciate it!

Hey! I have a super easy recipe that my husband LOVES! I don't know if you ever do any cooking with beans (pinto, kidney, black, etc.) but you use one can (your choice of flavor)of them all ready to use (about 50 cents at walmart), then mix in a half cup of Salsa. Mix it all together with a potato masher. Then put the mixtur in a flour tortilla with some cheese and roll it up and put in a dish. Once you get them all in the dish, pour enchilada sauce over it, and some shredded cheese. Put it in the oven for 15 minutes at 350. Super easy and tasty. Sometimes I add rice to the mixture to make it more filling :) Good luck, and good job being a stay at home mom!!

Why do you think we have playgroup? It's NOT for the kids, but it gives us moms a chance to get out of the house and interact with other adults. Plus, getting out of the house for a while seems to make the kiddos more pleasant the rest of the day. You should come. Every wed and thurs. And, if your bored/going crazy tomorrow, you can bring Jaxon over to swim with Breah and we can play! btw, I think I have a wrong number for you home number...is your cell still broken?

Amen and Amen. I know the feeling deary. IT is so hard. I have a great recipe. Get some chicken breasts and cook them in a tiny bit of oil with lemon pepper. When they are still cooking for the last few minutes put some swiss cheese on them. Serve the chicken with potatoes and gravy and some fruit salad. It is really really good. If you need any other recipes I will gladly give you some! Hang in there.

I don't think it comes "natural" to any of us. Its a transition and you will find your groove. I'll tell you one secret. If it wasn't for friends I would be in a nut house right now. Come play with us.

I agree with some of the other comments. I would be so depressed if it weren't for getting out of the house and soicalizing with other moms. Plus, it gives Jake some much-needed social interaction, too. Thanks for playing with us today. Jake kept talking about Jaxon after you guys left. We'll have to get them together more often. About the cooking thing... Do you have a crock pot? I've got some really easy recipes that I'll compile and send your way.

I say amen to all the moms that said playgroup is mostly for moms. Playgroup, facebook, and blogging are my escapes. As for cooking dinner you can look up receipes on the internet that are super easy ans yummy!

Alecia... I'm going crazy staying home all day this summer... and I understand what you mean about monotonous. :) I'm glad to hear that someone else loves easy, inexpensive meals too. Don't even think I'm not borrowing some of the meal ideas from the comments you got. Thanks! :) Anyway... I feel your pain and wish I had some good ideas for you to kill time. You are always doing creative things...maybe you could make jewelery or something. I just learned how to make earrings and those cute bead watches- and they're really fun and not too expensive. Maybe Jaxen would try to eat beads though.. I don't know. Oh yeah... and at least be thankful you've got Jax to keep you company! I am such a loner out here!

Ha ha, you crack me up! It does get VERY mundane, especially laundry, dishes, etc. BUT it really is the best job ever! How many jobs are out there that you are the "supreme boss"? Jaxon looks at you as some sort of "super diva" how cool is that? And the little devils love you like crazy, no matter how crappy of a cook you are! (trust me, I KNOW!) So, hang in there and you will suddenly find yourself "domesticated"! :) I have an entire recipe book full of simple meals that I can lend you! I'll bring it down on Sunday and show you my fav's!

I think when you get all these easy and cheap recipes compiled you will have to share. We all love getting some fresh ideas to mix up our boring same thing for dinner every night routine!

I have few ready, it is just harder than I thought to put it all down on the computer from my head. Good thing they're on the Internet now!
There is a list I am working on, and I'll try to get some done each day. For now, there are a few finished recipes. If you're super interested in any that aren't done yet, let me know and I'll do that one fast. They are at

Its like you can read my brain. I have two kids and still have issues with that.

I apologize to D all the time that it doesn't come naturally. He is very understanding.

thats why the camera saves our kind.

As a stay home mother of three children life is anything but boring. I agree that being in the house all day can get to you. So I choose not to be. I have a set schedule just as if I were at at 9-5 job. education time, reading time, playtime, lunchtime etc.. The best part is though, when I want to take the day off and do something different I can( well as long as I am willing to drag three kids along with me)
BTW, I am not domesticated in the least bit and am a wee bit jealous of those who are that way. My mom splurge is getting a diet coke/lemon and like everyone else said friends and play dates. I hope it gets easier.

Relax. Be nice. Whatever.
